Keep Storage Areas Clean to Prevent Home Fires
Your attic, garage or yard can be a fire hazard if certain items are not stored properly. Here are a few ways to keep your storage areas clean to prevent home fires.
- Check for old magazines or newspapers in the garage or attic. If stored in damp, warm places, these can self-combust even if not close to a heat source!
- Keep any gasoline or other flammable liquids at home tightly sealed in metal containers and make sure they are far away from heat sources such as gas or charcoal grills.
- Keep your grill least 10 feet from your home and placed away from any overhead branches or structures.
- If you have a heater or furnace in your home, be sure to leep any debris or clutter away from it.
