How to Prepare Your Family in Case Of A Fire?

While you don’t necessarily want to think about a home fire, it is important for you and your family be prepared. Here are a few simple ways to keep your family safe.

Have a plan- Establish a fire escape plan and make sure everyone in the family is familiar with this. Also create a family emergency communications plan and ensure that all household members know who to contact if they cannot find one another.

Practice your escape plan– Practice your home escape from your home at least twice a year. Train all household members to know two ways to escape from every room of your home and know the family meeting spot outside of your home.

9-1-1- Make sure every family member, even children knows how to call 9-1-1 when a home fire occurs.

Install Smoke Alarms- Install the right number of smoke alarms and test them once a month and replace the batteries at least once a year. Teach children and family members what smoke alarms sound like and what to do when they hear it.

Stop, Drop and Roll - Teach household members, especially your keiki (children) to STOP, DROP and ROLL if their clothes catch on fire.
