Fire Safety Tips

Knowing how to protect your home from a fire is an important precaution to always keep in mind. You may only have as little as two minutes to escape once a home fire starts. Having a fire escape plan that your family has practiced regularly can save lives. Below are a few more tips to help you stay safe.

Have a Fire Escape Plan, and Practice! – Create a family fire escape plan and practice this with your family members at least twice a year. Make sure this plan gets you out of your home in less than two minutes. If a fire does occur in your home, remind everyone to get out, stay out and call for help and never go back inside to try and get anything (or anyone) out.

Install and test smoke alarms – Install and maintain smoke alarms on every floor of your home and in every bedroom. Almost 50% of home fire deaths occur during the night while the everyone is sleeping.
Be sure to test smoke alarms every month and replace the batteries as needed. If your smoke alarm ever “chirps,” it is time to replace the battery immediately.

Never leave food cooking unattended– Be sure to always watch your food when cooking and never leave the stove unattended, especially deep fryers and other frying equipment.

No smoking – Not only is it a health hazard, smoking is also a fire hazard so it’s best to avoid smoking in the house.

Consult the experts – You may have the basics set up but it’s always helpful to have the experts help check your home to ensure your family’s safety. Let Hero Fire Protection help!
